Dictation app for Windows with a global hotkey (beta)

Hovor for Windows is in beta. Press a global hotkey, speak, and Hovor pastes the text into the app you are using. Speech recognition runs in the cloud by default, with optional on-device Parakeet recognition: download the model in Settings.

What the Windows beta does

Set your own global hotkey in Settings; changes apply without a restart. Hovor pastes dictated text into the app you are using through the clipboard and Ctrl+V by default, with an optional typing mode, and recordings with no detected speech are skipped. Your dictionary, snippets and usage stats sync with your account. You can translate while you dictate through Hovor Cloud or your own OpenAI key (requires BYOK Unlock, the Bundle or Pro). Meetings are not available on Windows.

Cloud by default, on-device optional

Until you choose otherwise, dictation uses cloud recognition. To use on-device Parakeet recognition, download the model in Settings; it needs a CPU with AVX2 support. On-device words count toward the Free weekly limit unless you have Local Unlock or Pro. Because this is a beta, features and behavior can still change.

Plans and pricing

The Windows beta starts on the Free plan: 2,000 words per week, shared between cloud and on-device dictation. Pro costs $7.00 per month or $65.00 per year, with no weekly word limit on cloud dictation, translation and sync, and it includes Local and BYOK access. For a one-time purchase, Local Unlock ($20.00) adds unlimited on-device dictation, replacements, snippets and workflows. BYOK Unlock ($15.00) lets you use your own provider keys, and the Local + BYOK Bundle ($30.00) includes both. The one-time unlocks do not include cloud dictation.

Set up in four steps

1. Download the Windows installer and run it. 2. Sign in to your Hovor account. 3. Set your hotkey in Settings. 4. Optional: download the Parakeet model in Settings to dictate on-device. Then hold or press your hotkey in any app and talk.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hovor for Windows stable?

Not yet. The Windows version is a beta, so features and behavior can still change.

Does Hovor work without internet on Windows?

Only with on-device Parakeet recognition. Download the model in Settings; it needs a CPU with AVX2 support. Without a downloaded model, dictation uses the cloud.

Can I use my own API key on Windows?

Yes, with BYOK Unlock or Pro you can use your own provider key. Translation works through Hovor Cloud or your own OpenAI key.
